Tiebreakers...

I have come up with the following system to break ties in the standings (in the pay spots) when all is said and done.

1. Money leader

I will add up the cashes for all players tied, and the money leader will take the top spot.

2. Head to Head

If there is still a tie, whether there are two people or more tied in the standings, I will break the the tie using a head to head scoring system. For example, if three players are tied, I will rank all three players based on their weekly finishes. In this tiebreaker I will use ALL 12 weeks. 3 points for finishing highest, 2 for second, 1 for third.

If there is still a tie after applying the two tiebreakers, the players will remain tied. For example, if first pays $100 and second pays $50, and there is tie for first, the players will each win $75.

If you have any objections with these tiebreak rules, or a better idea, please use the comment section to voice your opinions.

PT Poker League FAQ

Might as well get the ball rolling on this. I will update the FAQ as we go.

Q: What is the PT Poker League?
A: The PT Poker League is a series of 12 Phantasy Tour Private Poker tournaments, held at 9:00PM EST every Monday on Full Tilt Poker. Members of the league can accumulate points based on their final table finishes in the weekly game. The top point getters after 12 weeks will win a share of the prize pool.

Q: How much does it cost?
A: For the first season we will set the entry fee of $20, with 100% of the pool being distributed to the winners.

Q: What additional costs will I have?
A: Each weekly tournament costs $11, with $10 going into the prize pool for that individual tournament, and $1 going to Full Tilt as a tournament fee. If you play all 12 weeks of the tournament, it will cost you $132.

Q: When does the first season start?
A: Week 1 of Season 1 will be Monday January 5th, 2009. ALL league entries must be paid prior to the start of that tournament.

Q: How do I get points?
A: After a little discussion, it looks like we will go with the points structure below:

1st - 100 points
2nd - 80 points
3rd - 60 points
4th - 40 points
5th - 30 points
6th - 20 points
7th-9th - 10 points

Remember, your finish position is counted regardless of non-league members in the PT Tournament. That is, if someone NOT in the league wins the tournament, no 100 point result will be added that week.

Q: What if I can't play every tournament?
A: Your top 10 finishes in the PT Tournament will count towards league scoring. That means that you can miss 2 of the weekly tournaments over the course of the 12 week season without having that impact your scores.

Q: What if I lost my connection through no fault of my own, and I am blinded out of a tournament?
A: This is all part of Internet poker. All tournament results, according to the Full Tilt Hand History text file will be final.

Q: How do I pay my entry fee?
A: I will be acting as treasurer for the league. It seems like Full Tilt account transfers are the easiest method of payment. More information on payment instructions will be released as the start of the first season nears.

Q: How many people will win money, and how much will they win?
A: This will depend on how many members we get. At an absolute minimum, the top 3 finishers will win cash. This will be finalized at least 2 weeks before the first tournament that counts towards league points.

Q: What if I have more questions?
A: Post them in the comments section below, or Email me.

PT Poker League - Scoring System

I would like to get the ball rolling on the scoring system discussion. It looks like we are now getting 30 or so in the regular PT Monday game. We currently have 11 interested in the league, and I am certain that number will grow as we discuss the league in upcoming PT tournaments.

I want to make sure we reduce the possibility of ties, so I have been giving this some thought.

Proposal 1:

1st - 100 points
2nd - 75 points
3rd - 50 points
4th-9th (final table) - 25 points

This proposal will likely results in numerous ties.

Proposal 2:

1st - 100 points
2nd - 90 points
3rd - 80 points
4th - 70 points
5th - 60 points
6th - 50 points
7th - 40 points
8th - 30 points
9th - 20 points

Biggest issue with this system is that the flat scoring system does not proportionally reward the winner. That said, overall consistent final table finishes should give you a good score.

Proposal 3:

1st - 100 points
2nd - 80 points
3rd - 60 points
4th - 40 points
5th - 30 points
6th - 20 points
7th-9th - 10 points

A mix of the two previous systems. Bigger reward for top three finishers, and proportional rewards for the rest of the final table.

Regardless, we will have to have some tiebreakers. In my opinion, the first tiebreaker should be the average finish position for your top 10 finishes. In that case, for any zero point performances, your top 10 finish positions overall will count.

Please use the comments section below to voice your ideas. If you have another proposal, let's hear it!

Welcome to the Phantasy Tour Poker League!

Welcome to the Phantasy Tour Poker League! Starting January 5th our weekly PT Poker Game on Full Tilt will be part of the PT Poker League Season 1.

How this works:

While the scoring system and league entry cost have not been finalized, your finishing position each week in the PT Poker Game may qualify you for league points.

A standard points system may look like this:

Fourth through Ninth Place (Final Table) - 25
Third Place - 50
Second Place - 75
Win - 100

The season will run 12 weeks, and your top 10 finishes will count towards scoring. That way, if you miss a week or two it is no big deal.

Prior to the start of the season, the entry cost must be transferred to my Full Tilt account. The cost is up for debate, but it looks like anything between $20 and $50 is likely.

Depending on the number of league members, the winner will receive 50% of the prize pool, with the remaining 50% being split up in appropriate shares for the next few finishers.

Come visit the PT Poker discussion thread on the "green" board to share your thoughts.
